چکیده

AbstructThis paper presents two classes of adaptive blind algorithms based on secondand higher order statistics. The first class contains fast recursive algorithms whose cost functions involve second and thirdor fourth-order cumulants. These algorithms are stochastic gradient-based but have structures similar to the fast transversal filters (FTF) algorithms. The second class is composed of two stages: the first stage uses a gradient adaptive lattice (GAL) while the second stage employs a higher order-cumulant (HOC) based least mean squares (LMS) filter. The computational loads for these algorithms are all linearly proportional to the number of taps used. Furthermore, the second class, as various numerical examples indicate, yields very fast convergence rates and low steady state mean square errors (MSE) and intersymbol interference (ISI). MSE convergence analyses for the proposed algorithms are also provided and compared with simulation results.

Direct estimation of blind zero-forcing equalizers based on second-order statistics

Most existing zero-forcing equalization algorithms rely either on higher than second-order statistics or on partial or complete channel identification. We describe methods for computing fractionally spaced zero-forcing blind equalizers with arbitrary delay directly from second-order statistics of the observations without channel identification. We first develop a batch-type algorithm; then, ada...

An Approach to Blind Deconvolution Based on Second-order “soft” Statistics

In this paper we present a new blind equalizer that achieves identification of a channel by exploiting only second-order statistics of the observations. The novelty of the proposed approach is that the receiver accomplishes channel identification by using soft-statistics; roughly speaking, it consists of an Abend-Fritchman type [11] Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) equalizer that feeds a nonlinear Ka...

New Hybrid HOS-SOS Approach for Blind . . .

This letter presents a new hybrid Higher Order Statistics (HOS) and Second Order Statistics (SOS) based approach in order to improve the performance of the standard Bussgang algorithm for blind equalization of digital communication channels. An additional term based on SOS has been added to the conventional cost function and the Bayesian estimator has been replaced with an adaptive activation f...

Deterministic approaches for blind equalization of time-varying channels with antenna arrays

In this paper, we study the blind equalization problem of time-varying (TV) systems where the channel variations are too rapid to be tracked with conventional adaptive equalizers. We show that using a finite Fourier basis expansion, a TV antenna array system can be cast into a time-invariant multiinput, multi-output (MIMO) framework. The multiple inputs are related through the bases, thereby al...

Blind Equalization for Tomlinson-Harashima Precoded Systems

At a communications receiver the observed signal is a corrupted version of the transmitted signal. This distortion in the received signal is due to the physical characteristics of the channel, including multipath propagation, the non-idealities of copper wires and impulse noise. Equalization is a process to combat these distortions in order to recover the original transmitted signal. Roughly st...
